ABOUT

Francisca Aninat presents objectual pieces of participative development. With an emphasis on the manual fabrication of the work, she shows objects made of fragments of precarious materials (threads of wool, yarn, bricks, cardboard, etc.). Also an artist’s book intervened by representations of dreams and a pictorial piece that overflows its two-dimensional condition. Through requesting different people to intervene in the process of making the work, the artist explores the relation between the author and the viewer.

Oswaldo Ruiz, for his part, shows two photographs that deconstruct the urban landscape of Mexico City and Macul in Santiago, and a video piece about the city of Valparaiso. Captured a few weeks after a massive fire wreaked havoc on several hills of the city on April, in this video the artist reproduce chaos and the complex crossing of different imaginaries that characterizes this city. Through closed takes and high angle shots he opposes the modernity of the port with its precarity.

This exhibition strengthens the personal bond between the two artists, a friendship that goes back to the years where they studied in Central Saint Martins College in London. This complicity is manifested in the show by the relation the two artists have with the vestiges, as objects and materiality in Aninat’s work or as traces in the urban landscape in Ruiz’s. Likewise, both artists explore in this exhibition the representation of the unconscious. Aninat deepens in the oneiric images of the others, who draw their recollections of dreams using an invisible pigment over a canvas. And Ruiz, through complex shots and montage, activates in his work the pathos of the city and the archetypes that inhabit it.
