ABOUT

Within the framework of collaboration between Matucana 100 and MUSAC in León, aimed at a continuous presentation of works from its collection in Chile, our curator Paco Barragán designed the intriguing thematic exhibition  Obey! -¡Obedece !: APT Artist Jesper Just (DK) APT Artist Annika Larsson (S), Markus Schinwald (A), APT Artist Dani Marti (AUS / E), Atom Egoyan (CND) & Juli ã or Sarmento (P) -Funds MUSAC Collection.

With no less intriguing title, the curatorial bet proposes a reflection on concepts such submission, voyeurism, (the subject of) desire, subordination, the re-construction of identity, generational differences and even 'unheimlich 'within the marriage and family relations.

All the works here assembled the MUSAC Collection include a stylized and cinematic staging where the surreal, mysterious, strange and absurd, but so obsessive, so disturbing, irrational and sometimes a twisted point admirably they shake hands in the fascinating dialectic of domination and submission, ie master and slave. It is the desire for the other subject and I acknowledge that, at heart-and Hegel warned us well as the origin and the course of history is nothing but the confrontation of diverse and found wishes.

In Something to Love, the Dane Jesper Just call into question the male role in relationships when confronted with parent-child relationships in a surreal scenery credibly. For its part, the Austrian Markus Schinwald also plays with the dreamlike and strange Ten in Love : 10 people gathered in a former convent school, dressed in strange uniforms and exercising unexplained movements that make any emotional interaction in a mysterious ritual.

Likewise, Annika Larsson seduces us in Pink Ball by some beautiful while perverse images that revolve around three strange characters locked in a power dynamic and impregnated submission of attraction and desire. Also The Stamp Collector Hispanic-Australian Dani Marti speaks of domination and desire, but through a very contemporary and very recognizable scenery: witness the enigmatic and quasi-silent in a chat session from a person glued to a computer screen and dressed in a latex suit. Finally, the equally fascinating video, resulting from the collaboration between the Egyptian-Canadian filmmaker Atom Egoyan and Julião Sarmento Portuguese video artist, lies ahead with the masterpiece Closefetishistic gaze that confronts us with the image of a foot on the mouth a woman at the same time to cut your nails ...

Given these amazing intimate stories while, the viewer can not help but stop being a mere observer to become a voyeur applied. And this is perhaps but a great metaphor of human beings in the twenty-first century ...
