BIOGRAPHY

Francisca Aninat was born in 1979 in Santiago de Chile. She received a BA from University of Maryland in the USA, a Fine Arts degree from Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile and a Master of Arts from Central Saint Martins School of Art in the UK. Aninat’s practice has developed from the observation of the processes involved in everyday situations. The use of disregarded materials and the concepts of recollection, fragmentation and reconstruction have become key to her work in order to strengthen the relationship between process and meaning. She has participated in various solo and group shows in Chile and abroad. Selected solo exhibitions include Cut and Come Again at Rollo Contemporary Art in London, UK (2008); Pasar at Defensoría Penal Pública in Valparaíso, Chile (2005); Expansión at Centro de Arte Cecilia Palma in Santiago, Chile (2005). Selected group exhibitions include Max. 10 kls at Galería Casa Viva in Lisbon, Portugal (2007); Acts of Translation, Translating and Transferring at SAC Gallery in NY, USA (2006); Contracción de Material at Concreta Matucana 100 in Santiago, Chile (2004). Her work is part of the Hospital del Trabajador, CCU and the Museum of Contemporary Art collections in Chile, the New Hall Art Collection and David Roberts Art Foundation in the UK.
