IMAGE RENDER

Galeria Impakto, Lima, Barranco, 08/19/2014 - 09/17/2014

ABOUT

Galeria Impakto is pleased to present IMAGE RENDER, Chris Dorland's first solo exhibition at the gallery.

For this exhibition, Dorland will present a suite of six new Simulations paintings as well as a related group of works on paper that continue his ongoing exploration of contemporary capitalist spaces.

Dorland’s new paintings further examine the interplay between the painted representation, the archive and the mutability of digital space. The new works compress a variety of different spatial modalities into the picture plane as a means of creating a pictorial representation of our globalized, hyper-real landscapes of databases, networks and bureaucracies. The works are composited abstractions of screen-space, analogue space, history, consumption, mimesis and gesture.

Inspired as much by video game aesthetics, military technology, consumer culture and architectural rendering programs as by the layered history of painting; Dorland's vision presents a distressed and hallucinatory schematic of a world rendered in High Definition while simultaneously unraveling before our eyes.

Concurrently, Dorland's solo exhibition, ENTERTAINMENT HARDWARE, curated by Patricio M. Zárate, opens August 9th, 2014 at the Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes (MNBA) in Santiago, Chile. These exhibitions represent Dorland’s solo debut in South America. A forthcoming catalogue will be accompanying Dorland’s exhibition at the MNBA with essays by A.E Benenson and Patricio M. Zárate.
