Placebo

Lawrie Shabibi is pleased to present two exhibitions as part of the new season's Alserkal Gallery Night on 10th September, 2012.  In the Main Gallery we present Placebo a group exhibition of works from our roster of artists.  These include new works by Hamra Abbas, Sama Alshaibi, Driss Ouadahi, Shahpour Pouyan and Marwan Sahmarani.   

We inaugurate our Project Space by im/pure, a solo by Afghan/American artist Gazelle Samizay.  im/pure is Gazelle Samizay's first solo exhibition and she will be presenting a series of photographs and two new video works.   Samizay uses video to immerse the viewer in imagined narratives inspired by her own reality, with photographs that act as snapshots of the experience, at times pausing the narration of traumas in time to allow for reflection. In her new series Samizay considers the notion of the passage of time and the human desire for release - from burdens, grief and past experiences - reflecting upon whether there is ever a true catharsis or if we carry these within us forever.
