ABOUT

This second in a series of new displays drawn from the Serralves Collection brings to light a selection of paintings, sculptures, spatial interventions and works on paper. Created by artists in Portugal and internationally between the 1960s and the present day, the works have been selected from the permanent Collection of Serralves and the Coleção de Desenhos da Madeira, a private collection on long-term loan to the Museum.
The display reveals diverse and sympathetic approaches to constructed and narrative forms in relation to time, space, performance and language. The formal and conceptual affinities that emerge also point to artistic trajectories across generations, histories and geographies. Artists represented in the exhibition include: Manuel Alvess, Francis Alÿs, James Lee Byars, Pedro Cabrita Reis, Lourdes Castro, José Pedro Croft, Guy de Cointet, Tacita Dean, Mirtha Dermisache, Trisha Donnelly, Olafur Eliasson, Joseph Grigely, Ana Hatherly, Mona Hatoum, Mark Lombardi, Jorge Macchi, Dimitrije Basicevic Mangelos, Julie Mehretu, Lucia Nogueira, Damián Ortega, Lygia Pape, Dieter Roth, Ana Santos, António Sena, Ângelo de Sousa, Rirkrit Tiravanija, Armando Andrade Tudela, and Ana Vieira
