Rua D. João de Castro, 210

ABOUT

Designed and built between 1925 and 1944, Serralves Villa is considered to be the most notable and best preserved art deco building Portugal, which led it to be listed as a Building of Public Interest in 1996 and as a National Monument in 2012, integrated within the overall natural and built heritage of the Fundação de Serralves. Since it opened to the public in 1987, it has served as a key location for the presentation of exhibitions and projects by leading artists: James Lee Byars, Thomas Schütte, Ana Vieira, Luc Tuymans and Miros?aw Ba?ka and Leonor Antunes, among many others.
This summer, a selection of works will be displayed in the Villa and will then be integrated within the Serralves Collection, including works by Pedro Barateiro, Urs Fisher and Antoni Muntadas as well as the aforementioned Schütte, Tuymans and Balka.
In order to introduce visitors to the history of the Villa’s design and construction, Serralves Villa has hosted a programme of regular visits since the beginning of May 2013, guided by architects who are familiar with its history.
