Associations between music and visual arts have existed for centuries. In The Music of Painting, Peter Vergo affirms that these connections strengthened during the emergence and development of modernism. The XXth century witnessed major socio-cultural ruptures that triggered free experimentation and the interdisciplinary nature of artistic practices, a phenomenon that was accentuated during the 1960s. Music, a discipline that held a decisive influence over the field of culture during this particular period, continues to act as a driving force behind contemporary artistic projects.

Música gathers works by a multigenerational group of artists that articulate connections between music and contemporary drawing. Ranging from intimate illustrative drawings to three-dimensional, to sound pieces, and abstract compositions employing unconventional materials, the works on view celebrate the stimulating and effective qualities of music. Moreover, the exhibition aims to highlight the experimental nature of both disciplines by providing a unique aesthetic and sound experience of evocative visual rhythms and harmonies.

Música is part of an ongoing series of exhibitions dedicated to the exploration of drawing. Since its inception in 2007, this special series has become a fundamental component of Casas Riegner’s exhibition and curatorial program.
