ABOUT

On Friday, June 23, 2017, at 12:00, the gallery will open a joint exhibition for artists Uri Stetner and Michal Heiman.

The exhibition will include paintings and sketches by Uri Shtetner (1935-1999), including works from the late 1950s and early 1960s, alongside drawings and paintings by Michal Heiman from the 1980s onwards.

In 2010, Michal Heiman inherited part of the estate of Uri Stetner, her mother's brother. Stettner, an autodidact and an esteemed painter, represented France at the Paris Biennale in 1965 and presented many solo exhibitions, including a retrospective that was simultaneously exhibited at the Museum of Art at Ein Harod and the Herzliya Museum in 1994. Four years later Heiman waited until she opened the contents of the dozens of files in the estate, And the research and later on to her immediate surroundings, she was exposed to dozens of works and series she did not know, and to the issues she did not know about. There was a connection that was seen in the eyes of the curator Shlomit Breuer between Shtetner's handwriting, mainly in his early sketches, A drawing shared by both.

As in the construction of a genealogical sequence, the content and context of this exhibition are also deciphered in hindsight. The joint biography, the preoccupation with similar themes, the serial structure, the division into compositions, the synthesis between image and text, and Hayman's wide-ranging occupation of identity (individual and collective) and heredity contexts are only part of the building blocks of the continuum.
