ABOUT

Art Seasons Gallery is pleased to present “The Costume of Painter,'Moving Still-Life'”, a solo exhibition by Bae Joonsung.

By simultaneously dealing with paintings and photographs, including using lenticular sheets to create a three-dimensional effect, Bae explores a new meaning of paintings. Creating the reflection on the modernity of vision and the recontextualization of paintings, Bae embraces the classics from the orient’s view. He reproduces the masterpieces from the art history, attempting a new interpretation of the artworks.

Rather than simply referring to the costumes painted by the artist, “The Costume of Painter” reflects to the physical and mental moments while Bae was painting the costume. He has always believed that through painting, with the artist’s eyes, another model would be brought onto the painting. In return, the model demands repainting from the artist, according to the specific moments during this creation.

Bae Joonsung (b. 1967) was born in Gwangju, Korea. He graduated his B.F.A. from College of Fine Arts of Seoul National University, and M.F.A. from Graduate School of Seoul National University in Korea. He received the Grand Prix Award conferred by the Chung Kyungja Art Culture Foundation in Korea (1995) and the Young Artist Prix Award by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism (2000). He has participated in international exhibitions in Korea, China, France, America, Netherlands, Russia, Switzerland and Germany.
