Todd Arsenault: The Deadly Talkers

In this new series of paintings, works on paper, and video titled The Deadly Talkers, Arsenault continues to deal with issues related to technology, mass media, and aesthetics; particularly their impact on the more archaic modes of visual communication utilized in this exhibition.

Over the course of the last decade, Arsenault has gone through a continuous cycle of embracing and rejecting technology to better understand its role in the physical fabrication of art, and its impact on visual culture.

The paintings are constructed at a speed that mirrors the pace of our daily existence, where images and text saturate our minds at an incoherent rate. The process is not hierarchical, washed out memories of shape and color act as building blocks in a non-linear process. As elements amass and combine, they form something tangible that can be considered in a definite space and time, synthesizing the fragments of visual experience.
