Juan Capistran (b. 1976, Guadalajara, Mexico) received a BFA from Otis College of Art and Design (1999) and an MFA from University of California at Irvine (2002). Recent solo exhibitions include Labor of Love, University Art Gallery, University of California Irvine, Irvine, CA (2002); Slang this, 4-F Gallery, Los Angeles, CA (2003); and Going back to Cali, Mexican Cultural Institute of Los Angeles, Los Angeles, CA (2004). Selected group exhibitions include Altoids Curiously Strong Collection—A Retrospective, New Museum, New York, NY (2003); Phantom Sightings: Art After the Chicano Movement, Los Angeles County Museum of Art, Los Angeles, CA (2008); and Route 1: R for Replicant, CCA Wattis Institute, San Francisco, CA (2010).
