ABOUT

As part of opening weekend at Governors Island, we invite audiences to join us for a special weekend-long Open Studios event at the Arts Center at Governors Island to meet and engage with our Process Space artists-in-residence. Open Studios attendees will also have to opportunity to look at the developing and completed works of artists working in a variety of mediums—including visual, literary, and performing arts—leaving visitors learning about new ideas, perspectives, and art forms!

You’ll have the opportunity to meet our 20 Process Space artists, who for the past four months have been working on a multitude of projects including using text, images and sound to create poems and collages, using performance and deliberately self-conscious humor to explore the contemporary experience of being a woman, both politically and personally, using the mechanism of social engagement to reconcile histories of loss, trauma and violence that peoples and nations have suffered and perpetrated on each other, and creating sculptures that combine architectural and archeological references with elemental forms and delicate balances, detailed, vibrant paintings created in the span of 24 hours.

Artists in Residency:
Irina Arnaut, Nicole Awai, Morgan Bassichis, Rachel Beach, Juanli Carrión, Jordan Casteel, Todd Colby, David Horvitz, Loco7 Dance Puppet Theatre Company (Federico Restrepo), Douglas A. Martin, Esperanza Mayobre, Yuko Mohri (ACC Fellow), Kambui Olujimi, Joe Pan, Jessica Ann Peavy, Kameelah Rasheed, Elise Rasmussen, Aida Sehovic, U.S. Department of Arts and Culture (Adam Horowitz).
