The act of taking a photograph has become an innate gesture to most people equipped with smartphones or mobile digital devices. These photos captured using a smartphone could mean something for a moment but ends up usually as hopeless lonely images stored in the phone's memory. Nowadays, we are constantly bombarded by the photographed image scattered in the urban landscape, attempting to sell something to us while in cyberspace, the digital image mutate, grow, change and disintegrate via digital tools, sharing and usage. Only a Fragment presents three photographers working in Malaysia that expand the photographed image's utility to more than just documentations of reality. The works in the exhibition offer varied conceptual strategies with some relying on textual support to expand the visual meaning while others eliminate superfluous details, showing the images as they are, devoid of distracting allusions.

Eiffel Chong (b. 1977, Malaysia) graduated with an MA in International Contemporary Art and Design Practice from the University of East East London and a BA (Hons) in Photography from London College of Printing. Besides his production of photographic works, Chong is highly engaged with the Malaysian photographic community; taking on the role of mentor for the Goethe Institut Malaysia/Nikon Shooting Star program and Exposure+ Workshop. His work considers abstract concepts of life and death through banal details, silent landscapes and curious obsessions he observes from daily life.

Minstrel Kuik (b. 1976, Malaysia) graduated with a European Master of Fine Arts in photography with felicitation of jury from Ecole Nationale Superieure de la Photographie of Arles, France in 2006, a Diploma of Fine Arts with Honors from Ecole des Beaux-Arts de Versailles, France in 2003 and a Bachelor of Fine Arts (Hons) in Western Panting from National Taiwan Normal University, Taiwan in 1999. She was awarded the UOB Painting of the Year award in the Established Artist Category in Malaysia in 2014. She has widely exhibited in Malaysia and overseas.

Sherman Ong (b. 1971,Malaysia) is a film-maker, photographer and visual artist. His practice has always centered on the human condition and our relationships with other within the larger milieu.
