ABOUT

Young-hae Chang Heavy Industries is the name of the artistic collaboration comprised of Young-hae Chang and Marc Voge, who are based in Seoul. Their work is realized on the internet and has garnered international acclaim as one of the most notable examples of net art. Their works has been exhibited in numerous museums worldwide, including the Whitney (New York City), the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, the Getty (Los Angeles), the Tate (London), the Pompidou (Paris) as well as at the Venice, S?o Paulo, and Istanbul Biennials. Last year, YHCHI presented its first international solo show at the New Museum of Contemporary Art in New York. It is the first time that their work is being presented in Greece at the National Museum of Contemporary Art, Athens. Poetic, ironic, imaginative narratives and stories presented as text, using Flash animation, accompanied by jazz music or electronic sounds, move in between poetry and prose, abolish the boundaries between viewing and reading, intersect art, literature and cinema, “high” and “low” culture. A new digital hybrid literature in many languages concurrently, which practices criticism to political-social realities, local/universal identities and ideologies, and which we are invited to explore in the museum galleries as Flash animation installations, as well as on screen, using a web browser. The exhibition title is borrowed from the first part of the new three-part installation Close Your Eyes, commissioned by the museum and presented, along with three more works in real space, in parallel to the YHCHI homepage ( http://www.yhchang.com) in the media lounge, where visitors can see the complete works of the artists.
