ABOUT

Arario Gallery proudly presents “Intimate Distance,” a group exhibition curated by Shi-ne Oh. The exhibition explores how distance - whether physical or conceptual - plays an important role in understanding tendencies of contemporary Western painting.
The exhibition consists of 25 works from 6 artists with emphasis on their active presence in Europe and the U.S. Artists include internationally acclaimed George Condo (b. 1957), who humorously revisits the genre of ‘portrait paintings’ by quoting and twisting Masters of art history; renowned German artists, Hans-Peter Feldmann (b. 1941), and Karin Sander (b. 1957), highly regarded for their international museum exhibitions at the Serpentine Gallery, London, Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, NY, and the Museum of Modern Art, NY.
Three younger generations of artists are also featured in the exhibition: Chantal Joffe (b. 1969) is known for her signature style of painterly interpretation of people around her, the intimacy she amazingly creates. Bernd Ribbeck (b. 1974), who has been exploring geometry in relations to depth of painting, and last but not least, Cristof Yvoré (b. 1967) who intimately brings memories of ‘still-lives’ through his poetic paintings.
