BIOGRAPHY

Pierpaolo Campanini was born in 1964 in Cento, Italy, where he continues to live and work. Campanini’s practice explores the complex shift that visual language undergoes in the translation from three-dimensional form to two-dimensional representation. He constructs delicate baroque assemblages endowed with a peculiar surrealist sensibility for the sole purpose of painting these sculptures. Campanini uses an astonishing photorealist technique to explore the poetics that everyday objects acquire when staged within these strange evocative compositions.

Pierpaolo Campanini has recently presented solo exhibitions at Francesca Kaufmann, Milan (2009), Blum and Poe, Los Angeles (2008), Corvi-Mora, London (2007), Salon 94, New York (2006) and Galleria Francesca Kaufmann, Milan (2005). His work has also been shown as part of “Italics: Italian art between tradition and revolution 1968-2008” at Museum of Contemporary Art, Chicago (2009) and Palazzo Grassi, Venice (2008), "Transformational Grammars" at Galeria Francesca Kaufmann, Milan (2008), "Painting Codes" at Galleria Comunale d'Arte Contemporanea di Monfalcone (2007) and "ETC." at Le Consortium, Dijon (2005).

Pierpaolo Campanini is represented by Corvi-Mora, London and Galleria Francesca Kaufmann, Milan.
