GIỚI THIỆU

The solo exhibition Nasan Tur Running Blind at KUNST HAUS WIEN is dedicated to one of Germany’s most exciting political artists of the younger generation. The works of the German-Turkish artist (born 1974 in Offenbach/Germany, living in Berlin) reflects the political and social conditions of our time. He explores ideologies, subliminal messages or contradictions that are being communicated in public space: symbols of power and belonging that are present throughout the urban landscape and the media. In his first solo show in Vienna the artist presents a newly developed video, current works and, for the first time, the photo series Political Supporters.

Burst of emotions – bitter tears and ecstatic jubilation

Nasan Tur presents his photo series Political Supporters at the Galerie of KUNST HAUS WIEN. We see people campaigning for elections or people who provide huge, if not extreme, support to campaigning politicians. The artist uses pictures taken from newspapers, magazines and digital media and focuses on details of gesture and facial expression. The very moment election results are announced people show intense emotions or even lose control of their emotions – there are both bitter tears and ecstatic jubilation. It is these extreme situations he elaborates on in his works, portraying individuals who feel to belong to a (political) group, who define themselves through their membership to a specific group and distance themselves from others. Against the background of the current Austrian political situation – the repeated postponement of the election of the Federal President – Nasan Tur’s works are as topical as can be.
