Emilio Chapela Perez is a Mexican artist who was born 1978 in Mexico City. Perez earned a BA in Mathematics at Facultad de Ciencias, UNAM Mexico (1998), and graduate degrees in Photography and Related Media at the Centro de la Imagen, Mexico (2001), and Communication Sciences from Universidad Iberoamericana in Mexico (2002).
Perez has had 8 solo exhibitions (2009, 2008, 2007), the most recent of those was titled Miss-Communication, exhibited at Sala Jesús Gallardo and the Museo de la Cuidad de Queretaro in Mexico, and SELFportraitSCAPES, exhibited at the Museo de Arte Abstracto in Mexico. He has also done solo shows at Henrique Faria Fine Art in NY, Faria + Fabregas in Venezuela, Galleria Galica in Milan, EDS Galeria in México City and at the Museum Manuel Felguerez in Zacatecas
Perez has also consistently participated in international group exhibitions since 2001. The two most recent were titled XIV Bienal de Pintura Rufino Tamayo in Mexico and The Garden of Delights at the Yeosu Art Festival in Corea. Perez received the Emerging Artist award at PULSE Miami Art Fair in 2008, three grants from FONCA (2008, 2007, 2005) that among other things, helped produce Miss-Communication and fund Perez’s residency at the ISCP in 2007.
Perez’s work is held in multiple international public His work can be found at collections like the Museum of Fine Arts in Houston, Colección Jumex in Mexico, MARTE Museum Collection in El Salvador, Tim Rollins Collection in New York, Bransten Collection in San Francisco and Starbucks Mexico; and private collections in New York City, UK, Brussels, Austria, Argentina, Mexico DF, Miami, Paris, Houston, Lima and Milan.
Emilio Chapela Perez lives and works in Berlin and Mexico City, and is represented by EDS Galeria.
