TIỂU SỬ

Burgdorf-based artists Sabina Lang (b. 1972, Bern) and Daniel Baumann (b. 1967, San Francisco) have been producing work collaboratively as Lang/Baumann or L/B since the beginning of the 1990s. Informed by both the legacies of Pop Art and the Bauhaus, Lang/Baumann’s practice combines graphic design, architectural interventions and relational strategies. While celebrating beauty, participation and spectator enjoyment, their work critically engages with the notions of mass-consumerism, fashion, democracy, and technology. By occupying the increasingly sparse interstices between private and public space, their pieces highlight the formal and informal norms that govern these sites. Lang/Baumann’s infamous single-room pod “Hotel Everland” (2002-2008) addresses the privileged access afforded by greater means. Open to the general public during museum hours, the piece serves as an exclusive luxury hotel suite after closing hours for those who are lucky enough to have booked the room for one night.

Lang/Baumann have recently presented solo exhibitions include at Galerie Loevenbruck, Paris F (2011), Galeria Foksal, Warsaw PL (2010), R-Art, Vercorin CH (2010), Le Confort Moderne, Poitiers F (2009) and Galerie Urs Meile, Beijing PRC (2008). Their work has also been shown as part of "Frontiers of Architecture III-IV: Living" Louisiana Museum of Modern Art, Humlebæk DK (2011), "Höhenrausch 2. Luftsprünge & Wasserspiele" OK Offenes Kulturhaus, Linz A (2011), "Luftkunst" Zeppelin Museum, Friedrichshafen D (2011), "Of Bridges & Borders" Puente Figueroa Alcorta, Recoleta & Fundacion Proa, Buenos Aires AR (2011), "Nuit Blanche" Ecole Elementaire de Belleville, Paris F (2010), "Biennale de Belleville" Quartier de Belleville, Paris F (2010), "Fukutake House" Art Setouchi 2010, Megijima, Kagawa JP (2010), "Regionale. Der schaffende Mensch. Welten des Eigensinns." Schloss Trautenfels, Trautenfels A (2010) and "Portrait de l'artiste en motocycliste. Olivier Mosset" at Magasin, Grenoble (2009).
