Within Reach

APT artist Gabriella Klein is participating “Within Reach”, a Group Show curated by Iris Mendel. Gabriella is showing paintings on canvas and a  site specific monumental mural.

The works share a desire to touch the substance and remote districts. They turn to different cultures in history, from ancient Egypt and Greece to the traditions of the Renaissance, neo-classical and folklore. The transition between times and reunion with past art therapy takes place through the surface of the image and work with clay. No perspective is the underlying work, but will "open" the material and recognizable touch. Adopting different techniques, the artists are trying to create textures, material and depth to reveal the image lacks the flat, and like an archaeological dig to get in and discover the hidden layers. Handicraft and physical dimension are seen as a tool for image and change its meaning. Together they bridge the distance and allow the connection to the present.

The Penetration across the surface of the substrate becoming image or tactile materials and are an attempt to breathe life into the frozen image. Multiple layers come to the dominant element that produces an illusion of two-dimensional and three-dimensional, and raises the temptation to enter the content, touch and approach. As the movement gathered at the exhibition woodpeckers and various types of linen spread and flow between spaces: fabrics and textiles, rugs and woven mini, fur and grids replace and complement each other. Surfaces fill the museum and create a multicultural mosaic connecting different places and times. The works seek to change shape, to be exposed to different light and to make a new acquaintance with history - an introduction by touch alone.
