Feminist Aesthetics and Abstraction in American Quilts-Gallery Talk

Pro Arts Gallery, California, Oakland, 03/16/2016

150 Frank H. Ogawa Plaza Oakland

關於

We are all aware of the vast world of quilts, from crafting books, fabric shops, and popular fairs to the arenas of “high art” museums, historical scholarship, and feminist theory. In the United States, the quilt has served as an icon of domestic comfort and American resourcefulness, as well as a metaphor to describe the piecing together of disparate parts into a whole. Join artists Adia Millett in conversation with collector, historian, author, and co-organizer of the seminal exhibition Abstract Design in American Quilts, Jonathan Holstein, which opened in 1971 at the Whitney Museum of American Art in New York City and marked the explosion of attention to this art form.
