簡介

Øystein Aasan (b. 1977 in Kristiansand, Norway) lives and works in Berlin.
He studied at the Oslo Tegne og Maleskole and the Fine Art Department of the Statens Håndverks og Kunstindustrihøyskole (National College of Art and Design).

Aasan uses a combination of materials, including paper, plywood, ink, adhesive letters and photography to address the qualities of reproduction and the fragility of memory. His works, “Reading Hemingway without guilt” and “Opinions not necessarily addressed by the author” bring to the viewer’s attention the ability of words to transmit a meaning and to become more aware of as the unintended messages that inevitably accompany words.

He  works in a variety of media, including mirrors, print and foil collages, Plexiglas, paint and wood. His work “Display Unit (Churches)” is a collage that clearly defines black and gray shapes separating church architectural features. This two-dimensional piece compliments his sculptural installations that possess similar characteristics of distorted elements in architecture.

He exhibited at the Sørlandet Museum of Art in Kristiansand, Norway, the Kunstraum NOE in Vienna and the exhibition “Lights On” at the Astrup Fearnley Museum of Art in Oslo, Norway.

Aasan is currently represented by Lautom Contemporary in Oslo, Galerie Katharina Bittel in Hamburg, and PSM Gallery in Berlin
