Art Los Angeles Contemporary

The international image of Los Angeles is often quite different from the reality of living here. How does this misconception affect its artists when they show abroad, particularly in Europe and Asia? Does the weight of expectation lead to misreading of their work and favor certain practices over others? And what are the complications of localism when you work in a global city? Key figures of the city’s contemporary art community attempt to answer these questions in a lively conversation.

Art Los Angeles Contemporary, now in its seventh year, is the International Contemporary Art fair of the West Coast, held January 28–31, 2016.

The fair presents top established and emerging galleries from around the world, with a strong focus on Los Angeles galleries. Participants present some of the most dynamic recent works from their roster of represented artists, offering an informed cross section of what is happening now in contemporary art making.
