Marc Bijl. Urban Gothic

Marc Bijl (1970) is a versatile artist whose repertoire comprises installations, videos, sculptures, interventions, graffiti and paintings. With a recognizable visual language that largely consists of raw building material, corrugated sheets, mirrors, gooey black epoxy, in combination with hackneyed symbols, (art-)historical references and short texts, Bijl’s work constitutes an ongoing quest for, and a destabilization of, the underlying power structures that typify the mass culture. Besides a selection of older work, the exhibition will also present more recent work. Bijl has produced a new, large-scale work especially for this exhibition.
