Claire Cowie employs dramatic shifts in scale, multiple horizon lines, and a mix of perspectives to convey complex connections between urban and natural environments within the context of passing time. Evoking layers of recognizable visual information, but disrupting their conventional spatial relationships by allowing the ground, for instance, to appear as if air, Cowie speaks abstractly about our long-term relationship to nature, both positive and negative, with an emphasis on interconnected relationships.
