Rosalind Nashashibi: Jack Straw’s Castle - Exhibition Opening

LUX Moving Image, London, London, 07/16/2017

Waterlow Park Centre, Dartmouth Park Hill, N19 5JF London, United Kingdom

ABOUT

This Summer, LUX presents a solo exhibition of UK artist Rosalind Nashashibi’s Jack Straw’s Castle (2009), a 17minute 16mm film, originally commissioned by ICA, London and Kunsthall Bergen for her major survey exhibition at the two institutions in 2009. Jack Straw’s Castle uses footage shot in and around a public park, interlacing shots from real life – including sequences shot in a cruising area – with highly theatrical scenarios involving a cast of non-actors.

The exhibition is part of CRUISING GROUND, LUX’s summer-long programme of events exploring the cultural and historical heritage of cruising in North London in partnership with CRUSEV.

The exhibition continues 2 September, Wed - Sat, 12pm - 5pm.

Rosalind Nashashibi is a London-based filmmaker and painter. Solo shows include a war artist commission at Imperial War Museum, UCI California, ICA, London and Chisenhale. She represented Scotland in the 52nd Venice Biennale and won Becks Futures in 2003. In 2017 she is participating in documenta14 in Athens and Kassel and has been nominated for the Turner Prize.
