Selections

Pace Prints is pleased to present Selections, a summer group exhibition highlighting recent works published by Pace Editions. On view May 31–August 18, 2017, the exhibition features work by Arturo Herrera, Shepard Fairey, Qin Feng, Donald Baechler, Jenny Holzer, Kate Shepherd, Dan Walsh, and Daniel Heidkamp.

Jenny Holzer’s Conclusion (2016) etchings investigate the aesthetics of censorship and the idea of erasure on a material and conceptual level. Holzer physically removes copper from the etching plates, embedding the idea of censorship in each matrix. The set of six reconstructs the United States' involvement in the “war on terror” using redacted government documents.

Kate Shepherd’s newest series of paper pulp monoprints suggests airy perspectival space in single colors: blue, purple, gray and yellow. The images were conceptualized in SketchUp, a program the artist has employed for all of her architecture-oriented paintings and prints. The use of paper pulp to describe hard-edged perspective allows for a less structured, more transparent spatial experience.

In Daniel Heidkamp’s first collaboration with Pace Prints, the artist depicts wooded groves, seascapes, interiors, houses nestled in foliage on rolling hills, and boats skimming across frothy shores in playful hues. These paper pulp monoprints are based on drawings and paintings the artist created during two summer stays in Cape Ann, along the coast of Gloucester, Massachusetts.

Dan Walsh’s Elements monoprint series applies a programmatic approach to exploring the archetypal building blocks of an image—the circle, square and cone; and the primary colors—blue, red and yellow. As individual components in a set of ten, each work can be understood part of a musical composition where Walsh begins with simplified visual notes and expands on their complexities by applying a set of unexpected permutations.
