ABOUT

What is a community made of? In what ways are our stories connected? Translated as “Living Archive” in her native Portuguese, artist Bia Gayotto’s new exhibition in our Community Room makes visible the ways local stories, relationships, and memories create meaningful locations. Half publication, half exhibition, Arquivovivo Pasadena is comprised of two parts. Part one incorporates interviews and photography that focuses on the stories of eight Pasadenans—both life-long residents and new arrivals—and their relationship to eight distinctly-Pasadena locations, ranging from the Arroyo Seco to the Carnegie Observatories. Part two consists of an eclectic range of imagery, submitted to the artist from the Pasadena community via a social media campaign that asked the question, “what does Pasadena mean to you?” United by the desire to create new forms of understanding, Arquivovivo Pasadena creates a space for dialogue and an opportunity for different groups to meet and learn about one another.

Please join us for an opening reception with the artist and project participants on Saturday, June 17, from 5-7 pm. The Armory's Community Room is open Tuesdays through Sundays, 12-5pm. Admission is always free.
