Riffing on the 2009 Paper Monument publication I Like Your Work: Art and Etiquette, Like Your Work features nine artists who embody an absurdist dedication to form and craft, either in their artistic perspective, their studio practice, or manifested within the artwork itself. For many, the notion of “work” within their process transcends reductivist notions of Midwestern work ethic, requiring patient and mindful attention to materials and their manipulations. For others, labor is demonstrated through a complexity of layered elements such as accumulative gestures or juxtaposed imagery. Often, this devotion requires a Sisyphean commitment, however, these artists do not succumb to the existential tint pervasive in that loaded Greek Myth, rather, their diligence is a necessary celebration.
