Constructing the Earthquake benutzt das Erdbeben als Metapher für unterschiedliche Formen gesellschaftlicher und emotionaler Erschütterungen. Angesichts der zunehmenden Globalisierung und den diffusen Gefühlen von Kontrollverlust und Unsicherheit fragen die Künstler*innen nach der Eigenverantwortung des Menschen für seinen Lebensraum und suchen nach Wegen, um mit den neuen Realitäten flexibler umzugehen.

In ihrem Video-Installationen thematisiert Sharon Paz alltägliche Momente der Verunsicherung, wie sie Menschen erfahren, die von Flucht, Migration und globaler Mobilität betroffen sind: Die Künstlerin untersucht reale und virtuelle Grenzen und findet Bilder für Situationen zwischen Innen und Außen, Zugehörigkeit und Ausgeschlossen-Sein. Paz zeigt Projektionen, in denen sich verschiedene Wirklichkeitsebenen durchdringen und fordert die Besuchenden auf, mit dem eigenen Schatten Teil der Bildwelt zu werden.

Folke Köbberling rüttelt mit ihren künstlerischen Aktionen an eingefahrenen Denkmustern über so alltägliche Dinge wie den Automobilverkehr. Wieso gelten Autos als Notwendigkeit, obwohl sie Luft und Lungen verschmutzen und große Teile des öffentlichen Raumes verschandeln? Würden Bürgerunruhen ausbrechen, wenn man den Individualverkehr verböte, weil er Todesfälle und Verstümmelungen verursacht? Köbberlings Arbeiten unternehmen absurde Modellversuche für einen autofreien Stadtraum, die zur Stellungnahme herausfordern. 

Das parallel entwickelte Performance-Projekt Please Turn Out The Light – I Can Only Play in the Dark von Chryssa Tsampazi geht von einer Vokalkomposition zu einem Text von Franz Kafka aus und macht das Durchbrechen fester Strukturen auf einer abstrakt-musikalischen Ebene erfahrbar.

Constructing the Earthquake takes the earthquake as a metaphor for different forms of social and emotional tremor. Against the backdrop of increasing globalisation and diffuse feelings of diminished control and security, the artists scrutinise human responsibility for the spaces we live in and seek ways to navigate new realities with more flexibility.

In her video installations, Sharon Paz considers everyday moments of uncertainty in the experiences of people affected by flight, migration and global mobility. The artist investigates concrete and virtual borders, visualising situations between inside and outside, between belonging and exclusion. Paz presents projections in which many layers of reality permeate each other; she invites viewers to become part of the visual landscape through the shadows they cast.

With her artistic interventions, Folke Köbberling shakes up habitual patterns of thought about everyday things like traffic. Why are cars considered a necessity even though they pollute our air and lungs and ruin large portions of public space? Would civil unrest break out if individual cars were banned due to fatalities and injuries? In modelling the absurd eventualities of a car-free urban space, Köbberling challenges the viewer to take a position.

Chryssa Tsampazi’s performance project Please Turn Out The Light – I Can Only Play in the Dark begins with a vocal composition for a text by Franz Kafka and allows listeners to experience the rupture of established structures on an abstract, musical level.
