ABOUT

Book presentation and artist talk between Christian Jendreiko, Michael Hirsch and Daniela Stöppel

The catalog "12 COSMIC EXAMPLES" (Apparent Extent, 2016) documents a two-year series of instrumental actions by Christian Jendreiko in the Düsseldorf Berger Church. From Jendreiko, invitations were sent to artists, musicians and scientists to work on a "post-specific art concept" within the framework of his actions. Jendreiko's multi-hour to multi-day actions are based on verbal notation. Musical instruments play an important role in his actions.

The Munich philosopher and political scientist, Michael Hirsch, a participant in an action of the 12 COSMIC EXAMPLES, writes in the catalog: "Christian Jendreiko's actions are models in a strong sense. They are practice systems, concrete utopias of a social-innovative, communal life-practice. In this context, it is a matter of beginning here and now with pre-exercises for a different life. The point is to speak, to think, to act and play together, as if we were already living in a liberated society; Liberated, freed from the adjustments, the roles and the identity constraints of bourgeois society. "

Christian Jendreiko was born in 1969 in Recklinghausen and lives and works in Düsseldorf. He is currently a guest professor at the Peter Behrens School of Arts, Düsseldorf. In 2009, the Nuremberg art association presented the first solo exhibition by Christian Jendreiko. In Munich, Christian Jendreiko's actions were shown at the Kunstverein München (2011) and the Lothringer13 (2014). In the Kunstraum München, he was guest in 2009 with his duo Werni & Jendreiko.
