DESERTIFICATION

POST Gallery, 11/18/2016 - 12/01/2016

POST Gallery Laisvės Avenue 51A, 4 floor, Kaunas, Lithuania

ABOUT

Talking from an ecological point of view, when the topsoil is disturbed, erosion increases, and as a result the land deteriorates. This is the process of desertification. However, in this project, desertification is seen as receding space-time: time and space, folding on to each other, while levelling various parameters, which we use to measure the social, political and cultural climate that tends to exist in society. But it is so dry and dehydrated that promises of a better future are like a shimmering mirage in the desert. Tolerance and hypocrisy merge, and rise up like a sandstorm that obscures the horizon … Grey and yellow. Low-frequency sound vibrations, and the echoes of whistling tunes, spread in an abstract two-tone desert.

The exhibition presents the most recent artwork by Kristina Inčiūraitė: the audio-visual installation “Desertification”, the series of drawings “Massachusetts, Washington”, and the earlier experimental film “The Fragment as a Proverb” (2014), which became the starting point for the exhibition.
