ABOUT

Since the mid-2000s, Dominique Blais has developed his research on the sensorial perceptions of the immaterial through conceptual and visual dispositifs, combining the visible / invisible and audible / inaudible. By means of subtle transposition games, his work attempts to reverse our expectations and confuse our senses, opening up new possibilities of perception.

For the project « Back to the Future », Dominique Blais imagines an artistic dispositif that intrudes into the non-exhibition spaces of the Grand Cordel. In contrast to a visually conspicuous work, the proposal requires the taking of a little time to understand it and explore the environment; those discreetly added incorporated elements, transmitting an encrypted message to the public. Starting with the texts by curators Julia Cistiakova and Ekaterina Shcherbakova, and the context of the exhibition, the artist decided to appropriate a universal and timeless coded language - Morse - notably presented in literary culture, cinema and collective imagination.

Dominique Blais (born in 1974 in Chateaubriant, France, lives and works in Paris) received his BFA at École des Beaux-Arts de Nantes, Master in Media and Multimedia at Conservatoire des Arts et Métiers (Paris) et Master d'art de l'École Supérieure des Beaux-Arts of Marseille. After completing his studies, Blais worked as head of electronic and experimental music program and curator of the artist-run space, Glassbox gallery (Paris). In December 2013, in Rome, his piece Ring was awarded the Celeste Prize 2013 in the nomination «Curator’s choice ». His works have been acquired by numerous private and public collections. He is represented by Galerie Xippas, Paris.
