ABOUT

“Orlando stood now in the midst of the yellow body of an heraldic leopard. When he put his hand on the windowsill to push the window open, it was instantly coloured red, blue, and yellow like a butterfly’s wing.”

– Virginia Woolf

In many ways, this show – which is shaped by the works included – is informed by our collaboration on a group show, The Human Face is a Monument, held at Guild & Greyshkul in 2008. That exhibition alluded to the mediated and constructed figure, and this is a thread we pick up in this year’s show. Her Wherever, will run from October 8 – November 13, 2016, and will include work which reflects the space where the image meets domestic and soft-edged labor and process is politic…. In the works, process translates into a processing of information, feelings, and materials. Many of the works are grounded in specific time – as in a photographic portrait, the act of reading, or the habits of previous generations – while taking on the legacies of history. Nonetheless, we see this group of artist’s works as contemporary and resonant with this moment.
