ABOUT

bEIJING LIVE is a new annual international performance art event in the Chinese capital, taking place at the Danish Cultural Centre in Beijing’s iconic 798 Art District from October 14 to 23, 2016.

Showcasing more than 30 artists from besides China also Austria, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, India, Iraq, Ireland, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Sweden, Switzerland, United Kingdom, United States. Being a truly international event bEIJING LIVE, presents some of todays most challenging international performance artists representing a large variety of expressions and tendencies of different generations in contemporary performance art.

Owned and funded by GZ New Media Ltd, bEIJING LIVE is founded, directed and curated by Jonas Stampe, an art historian specialized in performance art with 15 years of academic research and studies at Universities in Sweden and France. Now based in Beijing, Jonas Stampe, has since 2001 presented more than 350 artists from 57 countries in 47 international art events in France, Sweden, Italy, USA and China.

“It is a challenge to produce an art event like Beijing Live in one of the world’s most important and exciting art capitals. Furthermore, Beijing has a strong tradition of performance art, and some of the most important artists from an international point of view. I am very pleased to work in such a positive context and I hope that my experience can add something to the vitality of performance art in Beijing. Since I first came to China in 2009 I have learned a lot, not least to be humble and to understand things in a long term perspective”, explains Jonas Stampe.

Besides its live performances at the Danish Cultural Center, bEIJING LIVE will present a film screening and lecture program at the Goethe-Institut in Beijing’s 798 Art District. The intention is to give a historic perspective through screenings of documentary film recordings, and to present some of the artists who took part in this history. Artists who are still active and who also are present at Beijing Live. This perspective and the live dialogue with the very actors who was a part of performance art’s development will, we believe, give a physical presence to the history of performance art, here and now.In

In collaboration with the Royal College of Art, London and the Central Academy of Fine Arts, bEIJING LIVE is also presenting a 3 day workshop Working Out – Working In under the direction of the legendary performance artist and Professor at the Royal College of Art, London, Nigel Rolfe. It will take place at the prestigious Chinese Academy of Fine Arts from October 12-14 2016.
