Beginnings Marathon

You are kindly invited to join us in realizing a performance project by the artist Vlatka Horvat, titled Beginnings Marathon, produced by Galerija Prozori, in cooperation with Galerija Nova.
For this participatory 8-hour performance, members of the public are invited to read out loud the first page of a book that's important to them. From the start of much loved classics and pulp novels, through beginnings of theoretical treatises, obscure poetic texts, technical manuals, children’s stories, popular histories, and everything in between, Beginnings Marathon fills the space with endless first pages, creating a collage of beginnings, openings, and unfinished narratives.

Bringing together participants invited specifically by the artist and ‘open mic’ participants attending the event, Beginnings Marathon gives voice to the texts that people feel a special connection to, staging the act of reading out loud to create a communal space of listening, thinking and imagining.
Beginnings Marathon has previously been presented at Kunsthalle Osnabrück in March 2015 and at HAU Hebbel am Uffer in Berlin in October 2015. This third incarnation of the project will take place on Friday, 10 June, from 2pm til 10pm in Galerija Prozori, Zapoljska 1, Zagreb.

The public can come and go as they please throughout the performance.

Participants of all ages and interests are welcome. 
Bring a book of your choice to read the first page out loud, for an audience of other participants and listeners. Or if you prefer, come to listen others read. 
The book you bring can be any genre and on any topic and can be read in any language.
