Dying on Stage

Christodoulos Panayiotou will present his lecture-performance “Dying on Stage” at Alt art space within the framework of Alt’s inaugural season dedicated to “contemporary issues in authorship.”

With the participation of dancer Jean Capeille, “Dying on Stage” takes as its departure point, Rudolf Nureyev’s 1991 staging of the ballet “La Bayadère.” Notably Nureyev’s last work before his death, “La Bayadère” then gives into a thorough discussion of especially the intersection of death in real life and on stage. This work has been previously presented at the Serpentine Gallery, London; Performa 15, New York; and Centre National de la Danse (with the invitation of Jérôme Bel, Paris) amongst other venues.
