Sook Jin Jo's solo exhibition

Completed during her 2014 residency at the Swatch Art Peace Hotel in Shanghai,  a series of  wooden assemblages and paper collages entitled "Shanghai Black" and " Beyond the Clouds" explore the iconography of clouds and traditional Chinese painting by contemplating the polluted air and cultural complexity of that sprawling historic metropolis.  The paintings also reference phrases from the Tao Te Ching that Jo learned when she was young.
