Bloc Projects is pleased to host Sheffield Fringe 2016: Object Documentary, a nine-day programme of screenings, presentations, and artists’ talks exploring the intersection of art & documentary practices.

The programme launches on Friday 10 June 2016 with screening programme Reciprocal Relations and a live light-controlled performance by one of the UK’s “most fearlessly inventive electronicists”,Leafcutter John. Saturday 11 June sees two further programmes, including one guest curated by Gareth Evans accompanied by a special discussion with featured artists and writer Adam Pugh. From Monday 13 June, the gallery hosts a week-long exhibition of the The Royal Road by filmmaker and LGBT cinema historian Jenni Olson.

This year’s programme Object Documentary investigates the ethical challenges of regarding documentary film as an object, and documentary material as a resource, through a diverse series of screenings exploring themes ranging from international conflict resolution, the nature and creation of stories, the political use-value in filmmaking, colonialism and reflections on memory and nostalgia.
