ABOUT

Strangers in Paradise, the latest exhibition in Gallery One, is a selection of work from artists Carolyn Janssen and Jillian Mayer. The installation tackles questions of identity, place, and authenticity in an increasingly digitized world.

Artist Bios:

Carolyn Janssen is a digital artist based in North Carolina. She earned her MFA from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and has been awarded residencies at The Highlands Center for the Arts in Sausalito, CA and Intercambiador ACART in Madrid, Spain, among others. Recently, her work has been featured in Oh Gurl,Quinta del Sordo, Madrid, Spain; Small Baptism, Julie Saul Gallery, New York, NY; and A Tooth For An Eye, Lump, Raleigh, NC.

Jillian Mayer is a visual artist and filmmaker based in South Florida. Recent solo exhibitions include 2015 Touchers, Aspect Ratio, Chicago, IL; Relax Attack, Plug Projects, Kansas City, MI; and Salt9, Jillian Mayer, Utah Museum of Fine Arts, Salt Lake City, Utah. Mayer is a 2015 Creative Capital Awardee and has work in various collections, including: UCLA Sundance Collection, Perez Miami Art Museum, and Young At Art Children’s Museum.
