ABOUT

"La Corteza del Alma" - The bark of the Soul is a metaphor to refer to the layers of the body, the house of the physical and spiritual feelings. Its protagonists are ten women of different nationalities and generations, whose works are related to the multiplicities of the feminine, through different topics ranging social injustice, gender, physical, psychological violence, racial discrimination, or sexuality .The starting point of these works is the concerning common for women artists female body, for many decades now. The supports and techniques used (installations, paintings, drawings, photographs, video and audio), brings to mind one of the written works of Barbara Kruger phrase, l989: Your Body is a Battleground.La work to which we refer was created almost 20 years ago, our society has changed, and women have achieved some victories, not if you fight for them. There is still much to do, although women are getting imposed. So much in art as in life!

The bark Alma revises and updates this premise from a plural, poetic and political approach to the works of: APT artist Sue Williams (UK), Yolanda Dominguez (EP) Catherine Dong (CN) Regina Galindo (GT) Beth Moyses (BR) Marina Núñez (EP) Rosana Paulino ( BR) Marta Maria Perez (CU) Teresa Serrano (MX) Mimi Smith (USA) Sue Williams (UK)
