ABOUT

IFAC is pleased to present a solo exhibition entitled "Orbital Vectors" by  APT artist Vargas-Suarez Universal. Curated by Lee Wells. Co-presented by Warren Lewis of Sotheby’s International Realty. The exhibition consists of new paintings depicting the artist’s trademark “vectors”, an automatic and algorithmic method of shape replication resulting in a rules-based system of drawing and painting. The works inherently reference indigenous iconography, mathematical schematics, architectural planning and scientific visualization through a reductive color palette. The title, “Orbital Vectors” refers to the cyclical motion found in the laws of nature and the astronautical course of space exploration. The artist’s methodology is clearly informed by similar concerns shared by previous generations of artists associated with conceptual abstraction in New York, Latin American Geometric Abstraction and the Twentieth Century muralists movements.

As noted art historian Carla Stellweg states, “While VSU’s works may occasionally nod to the current panoply of abstract tendencies such as post-minimalism, concrete, neo-concrete, geometric, systemic or concept-oriented art making, his work is uniquely positioned in a daring attempt to keep shape shifting and remain formally inventive in each and every work.”
