ABOUT

APT artist Mei Xian Qiu is presentig her SOLO show as part of the Museum Tour outside of the Riverside Art Museum

"Being as I'm an artist who tends to think of things in reference to music, The Beatles song, "Looking Through a Glass Onion," comes to mind upon discovering the many layers of May's Museum Tour artist, Mei Xian Qiu.

Looking at her art is like looking through a glass onion.  She approaches her photographs the same way she paints, "one piece at a time."  Layers of symbolism are used to defy expectations of those symbols and in turn "create new symbols;" a new layer.  Her photographs are printed on Plexiglass substrate.  It's like looking through windows of perceptions; another level.  These windows, are also layered in the fact that depending upon where you shine the light, whether the piece is backlit or direct, different realities and notions of truth are presented.

"I do not skirt away from provocative subjects, but approach them in different ways within the image."  This show will challenge the viewers to look at the way women are perceived in terms of history and subvert those beliefs.  "Sometimes, I feel people need to look at themselves.  A ferocious truth and tenderness do co-exist inside."

I invite you to challenge yourself and look through the glass onion; the art of Mei Xian Qiu.
