ABOUT

APT artist Sharon Louden presenting "Windows" is a site-specific, multi-disciplinary installation whose origin can be traced back to an Untitled drawing from 1995. This "drawing in space" at the Tweed Museum of Art uses highly reflective and colored aluminum in dialogue with the symmetrical architecture of the Sax Gallery. Creating an environment of movement and gesture, "Windows" implies infinite space and expansion.

Washington D.C.-based contemporary classical composer, Andrew Simpson, was commissioned to write a musical response to the installation. Entitled, "on windows," the composition was performed by a 10-piece ensemble of UMD music students the night of the opening. A recording has been played hourly during the exhibition.

Dimensions: 42x42’, 25’ ceiling, installation spanning 1,000 square feet; balcony overlooking installation.

125 highly reflective (raw) aluminum sheets (24x96"), 100 highly reflective (raw) aluminum sheets (24x75"), and 75 colored aluminum strips, ranging in size from 2 1/2"x13" to 4x24". Monofilament, steel screws, glue.
