Although created from the most mundane and commonplace materials— Michał Budny prefers to work with paper, coloured foil, plastic, cardboard, wood and adhesive tape—his sculptures, objects and installations have intense poetic resonances. They unite conceptual thought and romantic sentiment as well as formal precision and an extraordinary sensitivity for the uncertainty of existence in a personal and touching way.

The presentation at abc was conceived by Michał Budny specifically for the venue, and juxtaposes in the mode of an installation wall-pieces and free standing sculptures. The skin like hue of the wall-based object „Love is“ (2015) is contrasting with the cold and industrial appearance of the PVC-topped sculpture „Display”, which is reminiscent of a podium and covers almost the entire floor of the booth. Together the works create a mysterious, stage-like landscape (of the soul): An empty space into which the keyword Love is emitted, caught up by the shiny grey podium and eventually scattered as sparkling light reflexes. As is often the case with Budny’s work, they seem to crystallize a specific moment or a significant perception.
