Violence no more

This is a retrospective of videos, photographs, installations and the Grey Paintings of Indonesian artist Arahmaiani. In keeping with the Book Fair host country Indonesia is the Haus am Dom, Domplatz 3, from 12 to 25 October the work Arahmaiani. With her work, she has defended itself against the encroachments of the military dictatorship as against interference and intimidation by radical Islamic groups. The result is a polyphonic, spiritually rooted calling for the rights and dignity of persecuted, marginalized, impoverished sections of the population in Indonesia and worldwide.

This lines up link from her work with the "trilogy release Jawa" by Ascan Breuer. In this unusual documentary project Breuer studied familial and spiritual roots, discovers disfiguring traces of colonialism and the Cold War and confronts the audience with the Indonesian democratic movement in the slums of Jakarta.
