ABOUT

Marc Bauer's work is built on an extended practice of drawing in various formats and media options from traditional paper to the image projection and wall drawing.

"The work of Marc Bauer is based on a question that concerns the way history is written when it is crossed by the story of those who write it, or when it is partially falsified by contamination of elements invented. History is always treated in his works as a lacunar archeology, as a narrative matrix, as a poetic field, where events are subject to re-appropriations are subject to stuttering a slotted memory, made of scraps scattered in assemble with glue personal memories. The exhibition, entitled Cinerama, extends the research of the artist by placing the point of view of the cinematic territory, the movie The Architect, based on the film by FW Murnau, Nosferatu, a Symphony of Horror (1922) is a culmination. [...] "(JC Vergne)

From the intimate film image memory, the work of Marc Bauer is thus traversed by a variety of narratives that take shape where the sheets of the past intertwine with those of the imagination. With great economy of means, the artist draws his world in a set of collective histories, family and autobiographical, it deploys as many stills of the same sequence. Carrier of a language that can be easily appropriated, comic material is offered as a subject in the light of new screen projections. In his graphic work, Bauer transgresses also the technical agreements and, through experimentation, he freed the patterned surface, ranging from roughing to the erasure of the Treaty to sprawl and dilution to disappearance of reasons. This freedom it gives its design often leads to graze the pictorial dimension. Working on various media types and formats, as operator assembling the projection, it also uses other techniques as evidenced by his allegorical tapestry Melancholia made in Aubusson.
