ABOUT

You are kindly invited to the first day of the exhibition, on June 21 2015, 12-17h. to view the works and meet artists.

ZERP Gallery presents group exhibition Day / Night / Day, with work by Wouter le Duc, Jan de Bruin, Jeroen Witvliet, Fiona Weir, Tineke Schuurmans, and sculptures by Peter Riss.

The exhibited works are characterised by the absence of action, which at the same time refers to that happening which is not depicted: it has become a memory and does not belong to reality anymore. With the passing of time, memory and perspective change, and objectivity is lost. The experience of the moment gains importance. This gives opportunity to melancholy and nostalgia. An undeniable attraction goes out from these dark dungeons of human memories. The artists wonder: what is it that makes the dark, the macabre and the melancholy so attractive? Ideas, textures and feelings flow out of that which is hidden in the dark, or what you find if you shed light on your inner self. Perception and reality are sometimes wide apart, so that the viewer has to grope around in darkness. In limbo, a whole new reality can be found.

To be seen in the Netherlands for the first time during ‘Day / Night / Day’: the sculptures of artist Peter Riss (Kaufbeuren, 1962). His sculptures are characterised by their combination of thight, glossy surfaces and organic shapes and communicate strength, precision and carefulness. After his education at Kunstakademie Düsseldorf he had different (solo) exhibitions in Germany and Russia
