ABOUT

Jeff Bailey Gallery is pleased to present new sculpture by Jason Middlebrook in the gallery’s garden. On view are two of Middlebrook’s Mosaic Tree Stumps. Sculpted from Styrofoam, coated in fiberglass, and tiled in glass mosaic, each stump is unique. The forms themselves are roughly the size and shape of large cut stumps that could be found in the forest. The tile patterns mimic those found in kitchens, bathrooms and inlaid garden furniture.
Middlebrook’s work is known for investigating the tension between natural and manmade materials, and focusing upon man’s impact upon nature. Installed in the gallery’s garden, Mosaic Tree Stumps sit under the limbs of an eighty-year-old Silver Maple tree. Sunlight filters through its growing leaves. The light, always changing, reflects of off the mosaic.
